Why We Walk:
Join us and walk as a witness to Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty in the “CROP” Hunger Walk, a community event organized by the local interfaith community to:
v Raise awareness of the need around the world for daily food and shelter; and to
v Raise funds to help stop hunger around the world and here at home.
Who Sponsors the Contra Costa CROP Hunger Walk?
The 2009 Contra Costa CROP Hunger Walk is co-sponsored by caring people in Contra Costa County, the Interfaith Council of Contra Costa County and Church World Service.
How Does the Contra Costa CROP Hunger Walk Help?
v 25% of the funds support the Winter Nights Shelter of the Interfaith Council of Contra Costa County, providing temporary night time shelter for families with children and elders who are homeless in Contra Costa County from mid-October to early May.
v 75% of the funds support Church World Service (CWS) and other humanitarian agencies in disaster relief, refugee resettlement, self-help development projects in the U.S. and more than 80 countries. www.churchworldservice.org
v Administration and Fundraising cost less than 13.5%. (See Charity Navigator for CWS’ 4 star rating among charities!)
How Do I Join the CROP Hunger Walk?
v Sign up as an individual or group with your group’s recruiter.
v Contra Costa Website: http://cropwalkcontracosta.blogspot.com/
v Enlist as many Sponsors as you can, (and, encourage them to prepay). Make Checks Payable to “CWS/CROP”
v After the Walk collect the rest of your pledges and
v Turn them in to your Recruiter by November 05, 2009.
v Recruit More Walkers! — Enlist other walkers among Family, Friends, Neighbors, Parishioners, Coworkers, Volunteer organizations— or bring your dog.
v Sponsor a Walker! — Pledge your support to those who walk, donate in-kind or matching grants from your corporation or business to offer incentives for walkers.
v Help with setup, publicity, or organization this year, or next!

Directions
To Civic Park
From Hwy 24 heading East: (Lafayette)
Connect to the 680 Fwy, heading North.
Take the first exit on to Ygnacio Valley Road.
At the 3rd traffic signal, turn right onto North Main
At the 2nd traffic signal, turn left onto Civic Drive
Go one block, cross North Broadway.
You’ll see the park on your right.
Turn into the 1st driveway on your right, into the parking lot.
Go straight ahead to the back of the parking lot, follow the road down along the creek to the back parking lot. The Community Center is on your right.
From 680 Fwy heading North: (Alamo)
Take the Ygnacio Valley Road exit and follow the directions listed above
From 680 Fwy heading South: (Concord/Martinez)
Take the North Main exit (stay in the right lane as you exit.)
Cross over the freeway and travel South on ‘North’ Main.
Stay in the left lanes. Continue to the 7th traffic signal.
Turn left onto Civic Drive.
Go one block, cross North Broadway.
You’ll see the park on your right.
Turn into the 1st driveway on your right, into the parking lot.
Go straight ahead to the back of the parking lot, follow the road down along the creek to the back parking lot. The Community Center is on your right.
